February, 09 Moscow Hotel’s Diary

AZIMUT Hotel Moscow will be opened in April 2012 on the territory of the former textile factory Danilovskaya manufactory. The new Hotel will be housed in one of the historical buildings of the early 20th century.

History of Danilovskaya manufactory is inextricably linked with the name of its founder - the Russian merchant Vasily Yefremovich Mescherin. In 1867, he purchased the local small dye works and expanded production significantly.

He enhanced the production capacity of the factory and launched a complete manufacturing cycle of spinning, weaving, and dyeing.

As early as 1886, Danilovskaya Manufactory was awarded with the gold medal at an exhibition in Nizhny Novgorod and was entitled to feature the national emblem on its goods.

And in 1900 the Danilovskaya Manufactory Partnership was awarded with the Order of Lion and Sun in Persia and granted the honorary title of the Court supplier for the Shah of Persia.

The next boost in development came when the factory was managed by Baron Ludwig Johann von Knop, who launched production of weaving looms for which a separate casting house was built.

During the Soviet period, the factory was nationalized and had changed names several times until in 1992 it finally regained its original name.

Actually the tittle of Danilovskaya manufactory is closely connected with the Danilov monastery.

It was founded on the right bank of Moskva river in 1282 by prince Daniil Alexandrovich – the youngest son of Alexander Nevsky. On the same time he built several homesteads for peasants of the monastery. This village would over time grow into Danilovskaya Sloboda.
